Keris Panjang, Keris Penyalang or Keris Hukum or Keris Kuasa

Keseluruhan panjang .... 56.5 cm
Panjang mata sundang.... 43.5 cm
Hulu sundang ........... 1.9 cm
Sarung sundang ......... 9.0 cm

  3. Quote, "Thank you for visiting and humble website gallery and thank you so much for taking the time to read what was written. With regards to your keris pusaka first and for most it is not a Sundang. It is called a Keris Panjang, Keris Penyalang or Keris Hukum. In the olden days this kind of keris is forged/made not meant for fighting but more so for someone who have been given some special rights by a Ruler/King as a symbol of an extention of his power to rule or to execute a criminal by law. It can also be called as Keris Kuasa. One of your ancestors might be a Penghulu (Headman), Kerabat DiRaja or Pembesar. The dressing or accessories given on the sheath is made out of silver. Only close relative and the Sultan or King himself can have gold given to his keris. Not much so as a symbol of wealth but more so as a symbol of royalty and status wear in the community.

Your Keris Panjang still retains its original form and condition. BUT sadly the blade has not been cleaned or maintained for a very long time. A layer of rust has developed on the entire blade and further due to this the pesi/puting in the handle has expended over time due to rust and had caused the wooden handle to crack. It will be a good idea for you to have this keris reconditioned in the correct hands (knowledgable about keris cleaning). The only thing that you might be force to dealt with is? The handle might be broken in the process of separating the blade from the handle. BUT like all wood this handle can be repaired or replaced in the exact form. You can either use back wood (kemuning/teras), ivory, etc..... The wooden sheath or sarong looks rather dry and this can easily be reconditioned by using wood oil (Old English Oil recommended).

If you are staying in Singapore I can help to teach/advice on ways for you to clean your keris. Once you have the knowledge then this keris can be expected to be well maintained for many generation to come. You then can teach the same technics to those who needs help. But you must be ready to buy some stuff to start the cleaning process. They are not expensive but the only thing you can expect to be spending a little bit more would be the making of your own minyak keris.

Ok Anuar....... I will let you decide and think it over. No hurry you just take your time. To recondition your keris will take some time. And If I were to do it maybe max to a week. But it would be good if I can teach you how. Coz ilmu will travel a long way *smile*" Unquote.
